Sit with Sonya: Becoming Her is a live performance of Sonya's recent written works which have emerged from a period of deep spiritual, emotional, and creative inquiry... and numbness. It's captured from a period of time which she describes as feeling soul tired. 
 
This work explores the spiritual highs of connecting with deeper self-awareness and trust, juxtaposed with confronting the emotional lows of feeling as if you are holding it all together, with nobody to hold space for you.
 
Woven through this body of work the depths of emotions that comes with voicing your truth when you feel alone in the world, alongside the beauty that comes with stillness and the journey of what home and belonging truly are.
 
This body of work is in itself an activation back to wholeness, yet speak to the broken hearts, the apathy, the hope and the joy that live within us all. The pieces reflect Sonya's ongoing relationship with spiritual practice, intimacy, solitude, responsibility, and self-truth. 
 
This work is not retrospective. It is alive. It continues to evolve.
 
The Experience
This is a curated spoken-word and music experience. Each piece is paired with music selected to deepen its emotional, energetic, and narrative impact.
 
DJ Darcey will perform live, creating a seamless dialogue between sound and voice. The soundtrack moves through house, old school R&B, neo soul, and eclectic, genre-blending folk, experimental sounds and more.
 
Music and words work together to support the emotional and spiritual landscape of the work. The performance moves fluidly between spiritual channeling, poetic storytelling, embodied memory, and contemplative reflection. Some moments are expansive. Some are intimate. Some are challenging. Some are quiet.
 
All are intentional and reflect more than a personal journey, speaking to collective experiences of transition, maturity, devotion, and self-discovery. It is about reclaiming inner authority, refining truth, and honouring lived wisdom.
 
Becoming Her is not about arrival.
It is about conscious becoming.
